The spring 2011 collection of
Rei Kawakubo's Comme des Garçons is based upon one theme, the skull. The singular theme opens many doors to a variety of techniques able to be used on the garments, such as;
photographic prints, engravings and also
appliqued onto the models themselves. The checkerboard pattern is another theme throughout the collection, which compliments the skulls with the same 'simplistic' approach; as does, the blood red accents shown on selected pieces.
Kawakubo also manages to blur the lines of sexuality by creating
feminine shapes combined with the bold, statemented patterns and motifs.
Not only does the entire collection cause a stir among the usual, spring trends, the hair styling does too!
Lets hope this new, darker side of menswear will makes its way onto the high street to really create a statement in the Spring trends.
